+ What is roomt?
At Roomt, we aim at helping young foreigners get a jumpstart in New York City by providing them with a secure and furnished accommodation. We’ll do our best to pair you with open-minded people, make unique encounters and live an amazing experience.
We do not ask for a guarantor, credit score, or proof of salary (40 times the monthly rent per year). We just need your passport, visa, and your e-mail address to send you the lease.
+ What is the booking process?
If you want to go forward and book a room, we’ll require your e-mail address, a copy of your passport as well as your visa (once you receive it). We’ll send you a lease by e-mail that can be signed online. To confirm the booking, the lease has to be signed and the deposit has to be paid (1 month’s rent).
+ What's included in the rent?
All the furniture you see in the pictures are included in the rent, plus all the things you can’t see; mostly dishes, cutlery, vacuum, mop, etc.
+ Is there an agency or broker's fee?
There are no fees whatsoever. You pay the rent and the utilities (if applicable) monthly and that’s it!
+ How do we pay the rent?
We accept all means of payment, Paypal, Venmo, Wires etc. We do not take responsibility for any fees applied to an international wires. Please note that fees can be applied even if your bank does not have any as an intermediary bank can be used by your bank.
+ What documents do I need to provide to rent a room?
We ask for your e-mail address, passport, and visa if you have received it. We do not ask for an American guarantor, credit score, or proof of salary (usually 40 times the monthly rent per year).
+ Is there a minimum stay?
We typically ask our tenants to stay at least 4 months to avoid a too high turnover in our apartments. Please note that our leases start on the 1st of the month and end on the 30th or 31st of the month. We do not accomodate for early departures (e.g. before the end of the month). We do not rent on a month to month basis and we generally do not renew leases for less than a couple months.
+ What are the amenities?
All the amenities provided are listed on the apartment page and description.
+ Is the apartment furnished?
Yes the apartment is entirely furnished. We provide all the basic necessities. We’ll be happy to provide you more items if you think some are lacking, and if we deem them necessary. We provide free replacement of anything that’s too used (provided that the damages are normal tear and wear).
+ Can I share a room?
Some of our rooms accept couples. We prefer to avoid two friends sharing a room or overcrowding our apartments so we typically do not accept room sharing. Please contact us to know which rooms are available for couples.
+ Can I have friends or family over?
You can have friends or family over as long as your roommates agree to it. We ask you to be respectful of your roommates and not have guests for too long or too often.
+ Is smoking allowed?
Unfortunately, smoking is not allowed in our apartments. You can smoke on the balcony if the apartment has one.
+ Who's responsible for cleaning when leaving?
The tenant is responsible for leaving his room in the same state as he found it e.g. clean. We trust you to respect your roommates and keep the common areas clean at all time. If a cleaning service is needed, it will be charged to the leaving tenant.
+ Can I use my deposit to pay the rent?
The deposit is there in case any damages are done to the property, or if there is an issue with rent payment. We can not use it to pay the rent.
